Lost Or Stolen Passport

It might happen that while traveling your luggage may get lost or stolen and with your luggage, you may also end up loosing your Passport. If you are in another country and you end up losing or misplacing your passport, then there is no reason to panic. You need to visit the Local police station of that city. Tell them about the loss of the passport. You need to lodge an FIR with the police. Take multiple copies of the FIR that you had lodged with the police. The next step will be to meet the consular and go to his office.

The Consular may not necessarily be in the city which you are currently in and hence you may have to travel to the city where the Consular is located. Once you meet him, show him the documents with you like the Visa, the Air tickets, Identification proof etc. After filling up a form and submitting the fees for getting an additional passport, the new passport will be issued. You will also have to submit a copy of the FIR that you had lost with the police when the passport had been stolen or misplaced by you.

Rs. 2500 is the fees required to be paid while issuing a New passport of 36 pages instead of the old one and Rs. 3000 is the fees required to be paid if issuing a new passport of 60 pages. While traveling it is always advisable to carry Xerox copies of the Passport or the Visa in a different place than the one where the true copies are kept. So that if one of them gets lost, the other may still be there as a source of back up. Whenever traveling it is imperative to take good care of the passport and other documents if you want to avoid the hassles when it gets stolen or lost.
